What is Romathan about?
Documentary about the Roma theater of the same name in Kosice, Slovakia, which is organized and run exclusively by Roma and is unique in Europe. After more than 40 years of silence and social and artistic exclusion of the Roma, ROMATHAN is a first cautious step toward carving out a "space of normality" in an otherwise hostile environment. The ensemble has given us an insight into its everyday theater life, and we encounter its members as artistic and creative people who are learning to regain their dignity and self-confidence. It blends documentary elements. The film reflects a distinct Germany style and perspective. The story is brought to life by directors Monika Hielscher and Matthias Heeder. With a runtime of 1h 30m, it offers a comfortable feature-length experience.
